Won Ton "Animal" Chin was born January 5 1924 and grew up in Lijiang, at age 3 he began extensive training in the fine art of Lijiang T'ai chi ch'uan, Mastering the art by the age of 14. After his parents’ death when his was only 15 years old and keeping vigil beside their coffins for 4 years, he went to America and became a professional Roller skater at the famous Skate City Roller plaza. Unlike traditional Chinese, he ate Pizza and drank warm 7up and rolled about the streets and sidewalks on skates and dressed as a beggar wearing worn clothes, large pointed straw hat, shoes, and always holding a fan as well as a gourd containing 7up. However, he was warm-hearted and was always ready to lend a helping hand to ordinary people. Of course, his eccentric behavior but compassionate nature makes people think that he must have his own reason to behave as “Animal Chin”.
One day while skating down the street at a high rate of speed, Animal Chin came across a gap in the cement, he barely had anytime to react to the huge gap, with one skate up in the air and the other skate wobbling across the cement he wiped out, tearing his pants and thrashing his skates up and landing in a pile of garbage.causing a two-by-four piece of wood with the words skate engraved into it to fall from the structure of an old abandoned roller skate shop. Upon gazing at his thrashed skates, Animal Chin gained some sort of enlightenment, he looked at the fallen sign and then gazed at his thrashed skates, it was then that he grabbed his skates and the two-by-four and raced home to his workshop.Nobody knows exactly what happened in his workshop but 3 days later Animal Chin came flying out of his workshop on a two-by-four with Roller skates Bolted onto it.On this day June 21 1951 the First Skateboard Rolled across the cement in a small California town known as Eureka, Animal Chin thrashed across the cement and a transportation revolution was born.
